How to Use Converter Widgets
Each converter widget works the same way: select your source unit, enter a value, and select your target unit. The conversion happens instantly as you type. You can also swap the units with a single click to reverse the conversion direction. All converters support a wide range of units within their category, from common everyday units to specialized scientific and engineering units. Results are displayed with full precision and can be rounded to your preferred number of decimal places.
Conversion Methodology
Length: 1 meter = 3.28084 feet = 39.3701 inches
Weight: 1 kilogram = 2.20462 pounds = 35.274 ounces
Volume: 1 liter = 0.264172 gallons = 33.814 fl oz
Temperature: °F = (°C x 9/5) + 32
Area: 1 hectare = 2.471 acres = 10,000 m2
Speed: 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h = 2.237 mph
Data: 1 GB = 1,000 MB (SI) or 1,024 MiB (binary)
Pressure: 1 atm = 101,325 Pa = 14.696 PSI
Energy: 1 kWh = 3,600,000 J = 3,412 BTU
All conversions use internationally recognized conversion factors from the International System of Units (SI) and other standard measurement systems. Each converter uses a base unit internally (meters for length, kilograms for weight, etc.) and converts through that base for accuracy. Temperature conversions use direct formulas rather than multiplication factors since the scales have different zero points.
Example Conversion
Convert 5 miles to kilometers:
Conversion factor: 1 mile = 1.60934 km
5 miles x 1.60934 = 8.0467 km
Convert 72°F to Celsius:
Formula: °C = (°F - 32) x 5/9
°C = (72 - 32) x 5/9
°C = 40 x 0.5556
°C = 22.22°C

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between metric and imperial units?
The metric system (SI) uses base-10 prefixes (kilo, centi, milli) making conversions within the system simple multiplication. The imperial/US customary system uses historical units (feet, pounds, gallons) with irregular conversion factors. Most countries use metric; the US, Liberia, and Myanmar still primarily use imperial for everyday measurements.
What is the difference between GB and GiB?
GB (gigabyte) uses the SI definition: 1 GB = 1,000 MB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. GiB (gibibyte) uses the binary definition: 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. Hard drive manufacturers use GB (SI), while operating systems often display storage in GiB (binary), which is why a 500 GB drive shows as about 465 GiB in your OS.
Why are there different temperature scales?
Celsius sets 0 at water's freezing point and 100 at boiling (at sea level). Fahrenheit sets 32 at freezing and 212 at boiling, providing finer granularity for weather temperatures. Kelvin starts at absolute zero (-273.15°C) and is used in science. Each scale serves different practical purposes.
How accurate are these converters?
All converters use the exact conversion factors defined by international standards (NIST, BIPM). Results are accurate to at least 10 significant figures internally. Displayed results are rounded for readability but maintain full precision. For scientific work, the converters provide more than sufficient accuracy.
Can I use these converters offline?
All unit converters work entirely in your browser with no server calls required. Once the page loads, conversions happen instantly using JavaScript. The only exception is the Currency Converter, which uses approximate rates that may not reflect real-time market prices. For offline use, bookmark the specific converter page you need.
