How to Use the Glass Weight Calculator
Enter the glass panel dimensions (length and width in inches), thickness in millimeters, select the glass type, and specify the number of panels. The calculator determines the weight per panel and total weight for all panels. For laminated glass, the calculator accounts for two glass layers plus the PVB interlayer. For insulated (double-pane) units, it calculates the weight of both glass panes. This is critical for frame design, hardware selection, and installation planning.

Example Calculation
Annealed Glass: 48" × 36" × 6mm thick
Area = 48 × 36 = 1,728 in² = 12 sq ft
Convert: 1.219m × 0.914m × 0.006m
Volume = 1.219 × 0.914 × 0.006 = 0.00669 m³
Weight = 0.00669 × 2500 = 16.72 kg = 36.9 lbs
Weight per sq ft = 36.9 / 12 = 3.07 lbs/sq ft

What is the density of glass?
Standard soda-lime glass (used in windows and most architectural applications) has a density of 2,500 kg/m³ or 156 lbs/ft³. This is consistent across annealed, tempered, and laminated glass since the tempering and laminating processes don't change the glass density.
How much heavier is laminated glass than single pane?
